When I was living on a remote island in the Seto Inland Sea, I also helped with activities to protect and care for rescued cats, living alongside cats who were waiting to be spayed or neutered.\n\nIn his discussion of “Environment and Umwelt,” ethologist Toshitaka Hidaka stated, in essence, that “an environment that is good for humans is not necessarily a good environment for other living beings.” This is something I have come to deeply understand through my own involvement in animal rescue and welfare activities.\n\nWe can never fully know what truly constitutes happiness for an animal. Even so, I believe it is important not to forget to keep asking that question, and to continue reflecting on the complex relationship between humans and animals. Graduated from the Painting Course in the Department of Arts at Kindai University and received an MFA from Onomichi City University. After working at ARTBASE Momoshima on Momoshima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea, and doing seasonal live-in work on Rebun Island, Hokkaido, she devoted several years to her practice without exhibiting publicly.
